WVUE Fox 8: Louisiana’s oil industry anticipates growth, faces uncertainties with Trump re-election
Eric Smith, professor of practice in finance and associate director of the Tulane Energy Institute, was interviewed by WVUE-TV Fox 8 in New Orleans about the potential impacts of a second Trump administration on the state's oil and gas industry.
However, while experts foresee potential gains for Louisiana’s oil and gas industry, they also warn of possible repercussions from Trump’s broader policies. Dr. Eric Smith from Tulane cautions that Trump’s proposal to impose tariffs to limit imports could hurt international oil and gas sales, especially to China.
“If China puts countervailing tariffs on their imports, Louisiana, as a leading exporter of oil and gas, would be disproportionately impacted,” Smith said.
