Freeman School Dean Paulo Goes stands in front of "The New Orleans Black Experience," a mural by acclaimed New Orleans artist Brandan "BMIKE" Odums celebrating the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of the city's Black population. Located on the first floor of the Goldring/Woldenberg Business Complex in the Opening Bell coffee shop, the painting depicts the Claiborne Corridor, a once-thriving artery of Black-owned businesses that serves as a physical link between the community and Tulane. Among the individuals highlighted in the mural are Wayne Baquet (BSM ’90), Dr. Trivia Frazier (SSE ’08, M ’12, MBA ’18), Dr. Russell Ledet (MD/MBA ’22) and Stephanie Navarre (MBA ’86), distinguished alumni whose achievements serve as an inspiration for the Freeman community.

The Freeman School's Office of Workplace Excellence and Community Engagement commissioned the painting in 2024 to connect the aspirations of today's students to the legacy of those who paved the way and remind students of what makes New Orleans so special.
