Meet the MBA Class of '27: Luca Kunz

Luca Kunz
Skaneateles, NY
Luca Kunz is a mechanical engineer with international experience in medical device manufacturing and process improvement. At Volpi Group in New York and Switzerland, he partnered with startups and global firms to refine designs, launch new products, and lead ISO-compliant manufacturing projects. He introduced lean principles across seven production areas, boosting efficiency and training cross-functional teams. Previously, he served as a Radio Operator in the Swiss Army, supporting logistics and communications for a 150-member company, an experience that strengthened discipline and leadership under pressure. A dual U.S. and Swiss citizen fluent in German and English, Luca is pursuing his MBA to pivot from engineering into business strategy and operations. Outside of work, he enjoys tennis, travel and cooking.
Why are you pursuing an MBA?
I am looking to grow in the Medical Device Industry and be able to make a greater impact on the technology and helping people live an enhanced life.
What attracted you to Freeman? What are you hoping to achieve?
I was attracted to Freeman because of the school’s hands-on approach and great curriculum.
Also, having lived in Upstate New York where it’s cold most of the year, I was looking to be somewhere warm. I loved New Orleans when I was visiting. It’s a vibrant city with lots of good music, a distinct cuisine and unique atmosphere.
Where do you hope to be in five years?
In 5 years, I would like to be in management in the medical device industry, and I’d like to be making a difference in people’s lives.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my free time I like to be active. I enjoy playing tennis, wake surfing, snowboarding, running and learning to play golf. I have also been attempting to grow some bonsai!
What’s a fun fact about you?
I have been to over 35 States and about 20 countries. I love to travel!
