The university calendar may have read "Fall Break" on Oct. 14, but over 200 undergraduate students were hard at work growing their professional networks at the second annual Tulane Takeover: New York City.

The Freeman School's Career Management Center partnered with the Newcomb-Tulane College Career Wave Programming Office to host the event, a day of networking, lectures and panel discussions with Freeman alumni and parents.

The highlight of the day was a series of "Focused Career Conversations," which allowed students to meet alumni and parents stationed at pre-assigned tables without the anxiety often associated with trying to start a conversation with a professional at a networking cocktail reception. Each of these sessions included alumni representing various industries, careers and years of experience.

“Being a freshman at this event was perfect because I was able to practice networking and speaking with professionals without the stress of having an internship riding on this event,” said Rankin Hobbs (BSM '20). “The best piece of advice that I learned is that you are not locked into any single job through your major. A finance major can help you land a marketing job, or a marketing major might help you land a job in PR. It really just depends on how you network yourself.”
