WWL Radio: What is crypto? Is letting it into our 401(k)s a good idea?
Ryan Peters, assistant professor of finance, was interviewed by WWL First News about high-risk investments like cryptocurrency and private equity in the wake of President Trump’s executive order to expand the types of assets investors can add to their 401(k) retirement accounts.
“Lots of people issue assets. Every publicly traded company has equity. Privately traded companies have equity. People issue debt. You can think about the assets like that. What’s important is the value underlying those assets, which is important to be able to do due diligence on. Certainly don’t invest in any digital assets — or any assets at all, debt, equity or anything else — without understanding the underlying economic thing happening, the risks and everything else.”
