Former faculty member Larry Arnold passes away

Larry Arnold, who served on the Freeman School's management science faculty from 1971 to 2005, passed away on Feb. 2, 2020, in Arlington, Tennessee. He was 76.

A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, Arnold earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins University and joined Tulane University's Graduate School of Business, as the school was then known, in 1971 as an assistant professor of management science. His research interests included the theory and application of mathematical programming with particular area interests in the development of integer programming algorithms and the application of network models and dynamic programming. He later focused on quality and applications of optimization to operational problems. He was promoted to associate professor in 1975 and later to full professor.
After retiring from the Freeman School in 2005, Arnold relocated to Arlington, Tennessee, to be closer to family.
He is survived by two sons, Ray (Yvette) and John (Madelynn) Arnold and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Lohman Arnold. A memorial service in his honor was held on Feb. 6 at Arlington Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Arlington United Methodist Church.
