Dean Goes to deliver first 'State of the School' address at Wave '21

Dean Paulo Goes

Dean Paulo Goes, who became the 14th dean of Tulane University’s A. B. Freeman School of Business in August 2021, will deliver his first “State of the School” address on Nov. 12 as part of Wave ’21 Weekend, the university’s annual celebration combining homecoming, class reunions and family weekend. Dean Goes’ presentation will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Room 170 of the Goldring/Woldenberg Business Complex and will also be livestreamed.

Dean Goes began his tenure a week before Hurricane Ida struck New Orleans, knocking down trees and powerlines, damaging roofs and forcing the university to temporarily close. In the following weeks, Goes worked closely with university officials to ensure that the Goldring/Woldenberg Business Complex would be ready to welcome students back to campus at the end of the September. At the same time, Goes was meeting with faculty, staff and colleagues from across the university to begin to formulate a strategic plan for the school. For his “State of the School” address, Dean Goes will outline his priorities and vision for the school, discuss the ongoing strategic planning process and answer questions from attendees.

Following Dean Goes’ presentation, Freeman School faculty members will lead two “Back to the Classroom” lectures in conjuction with Wave ’21. Mara Force, professor of practice and associate director of the Master of Finance program, will present “Profit and/or Purpose - Should Corporations and Investors Maximize Value or Values?” at 2 p.m., and  Peter Ricchiuti, the William B. Burkenroad Jr. Clinical Professor of Equity Research and founder of Burkenroad Reports, will present “Keeping Up with the Dow Joneses. What the Financial Markets are Telling Us Now” at 2:30 p.m.

In addition to those events, Freeman will host a Reunion Cocktail Party in the Goldring/Woldenberg Business Complex’s Marshall Family Commons on Friday night to honor alumni celebrating milestone graduation anniversaries, and there will be a Freeman School tent on the Berger Family Lawn on Saturday morning for alumni to meet up and tailgate before the the Tulane – Tulsa game.
