Hannan appointed editor of leading accounting journal

Professor of Accounting R. Lynn Hannan has been named to a three-year term as an editor of Contemporary Accounting Research.

Professor of Accounting R. Lynn Hannan was recently appointed to a three-year term as an editor of Contemporary Accounting Research.

The appointment, which began May 1, is a prestigious one. Published since 1984 by the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, CAR is recognized as one of the top five journals in accounting and one of the top 50 in business.

The U.S. Postal Service has lost $20 billion in the last two years as it struggles to adapt to a fast changing, increasingly digital business environment. Could the agency help right itself by taking a page from its online competitors? The Freeman School’s Geoff Parker thinks so.

Hoang selected as recipient of FSG Teaching Award

Assistant Professor of Accounting Kris Hoang has been named the 2014 recipient of the Freeman Student Government (FSG) Teaching Award. The award, previously known as the Howard W. Wissner Award for Undergraduate Teaching, is presented annually by the FSG Executive Board in recognition of professors in the Bachelor of Science in Management program who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the education of students.

That was the central question posed to a large, diverse group of faculty, staff, students, alumni and employers in September 2012. Now, seven months later, the group—known collectively as the Strategic Planning Leadership Team—is preparing to release its findings to the entire Freeman community.

PwC awards $10K to develop MFIN accounting courses

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world’s largest professional services firm, has awarded the A. B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University a $10,000 grant to develop new accounting courses in the Master of Finance program.

Clif Brown, left, and Paul Spindt are members of the Accounting Curriculum Study Group, which has received a $10,000 grant from PwC to develop new accounting courses in the MFIN program.

Consumers judge risk of illness by the cost of the cure

When it comes to calculating their odds of getting the flu, consumers look to an unlikely gauge – the price of the flu shot – to measure their risk, according to a new study co-authored by a Freeman School researcher.
